Article: American Indian Religions:

Great Diversity

Native North America consists of an immense variety of religious forms, spiritual practices and philosophical beliefs. Anthropologists have compiled a huge trove of, sometimes accurate and sometimes misleading, information detailing practices and beliefs of Native American cultures - however, such information has remained isolated from popular culture. There has also been a proliferation of popularised versions of Indian religious and philosophical beliefs - the so-called New Age literature comes to mind here. Though such literature has unfortunately become most people's only way of learning about Indian beliefs, most often it has not been the product of Indians themselves and has become the source of much consternation within Indian communities.
