According to the most recent fossil evidence, modern humans, or Homo Sapiens Sapiens, probably first appeared between 90,000 and 200,000 years ago, evolving, perhaps, from southern Africa and spreading to other parts of the world. Physically more robust than the Neanderthals, modern humans adapted to the various climatic changes and variations. They lived in dwellings, commanded a sophisticated tool kit and buried their dead with grave goods. The last Ice Age was probably reaching its final stages around 10,000 to 7000 years ago. Sea levels were falling to periodically reveal bridges or corridors of land, the most famous and controversial, perhaps, being the Bering Land Bridge.
